What is Rotary Newmarket Art in a Day?

On February 11th 2017, artists had the opportunity to capture the character and identity of Parnell, Newmarket and Grafton, through painting and drawing media, in just one day.

Artists chose from one of three locations around Newmarket, Parnell and Grafton in which to paint or draw ‘En Plein Air’ (in the open air). The three locations were Osborne Street (including Osborne Lane) in Newmarket; the Domain Gates in Grafton and Dove-Myer Robinson Park (including Martyn Fields Reserve) in Parnell.

The exhibition of artworks created by artists in the Art in a Day competition on Saturday 11th February, featuring scenes of Parnell, Grafton and Newmarket, was held at St Mark’s Parish Centre, 95 Remuera Road, Remuera;  between Wednesday 15th and Saturday 18th February. The artworks created at the competition were for sale by silent auction with proceeds going directly to participating artists (less 20% commission to help fund future events).

Prizes for winning artworks were awarded at a prize giving ceremony at St. Mark’s Parish Centre on Saturday 18th February.
